No More Sail Jacksonville, Starry Nights or Veteran’s Day Parade

The Jacksonville City Council edged several hundred thousand dollars closer to filling the city's $53 million deficit by cutting over $500,000 from the City's Special Events Budget.  Among the events that were eliminated were:

  • The Veteran's Day Parade ($40,000)
  • Starry Nights Concerts With the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra ($200,000)
  • Sail Jacksonville ($200,000)

The decision to cut the Veteran's Day Parade, as well as the Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Wall (a $750 savings), is certain to anger many in Jacksonville's large active-duty and retired military community.
